Celebrating 110 years of the Ommaroo Hotel
There aren't many hotels in Jersey or even around the world that can say they've been welcoming guests for over a century. At the Ommaroo Hotel on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, we're incredibly proud to be one of them.
For more than 100 years, our hotel has looked out across the beautiful bay at Havre des Pas, welcoming generations of visitors to Jersey. Over the years we've seen fashions change, holidays evolve and the Island grow, but one thing has always remained the same – our commitment to making guests feel at home.
As we celebrate this special milestone, we'd like to share a little of the story behind the building that so many people have come to know and love.
It all began with four Victorian homes
Many people are surprised to learn that the Ommaroo Hotel wasn't originally built as a hotel at all.
The beautiful Victorian frontage you see today began life as a terrace of four elegant houses overlooking the sea. In 1916, two neighbouring properties were purchased and transformed into a small hotel, which officially opened its doors on 16 December 1916. It retained the name "Ommaroo", and the rest, as they say, is history.
Over the decades the Hotel has welcomed thousands of guests from around the world, becoming part of countless family holidays, celebrations and return visits to Jersey. Many of our guests first stayed with us as children and now return with children and grandchildren of their own. It's those stories that make the Ommaroo so much more than just a hotel.
A building with an impressive pedigree
Our history is made even more special thanks to the man behind much of the building's design.
Numbers 3 and 4 of the original terrace were designed by the renowned Jersey-born architect Adolphus Curry (1848–1910), one of the Island's most celebrated Victorian architects.
Curry was responsible for around 50 projects across Jersey during his career, including the Victoria Club (now Banjo), the original Jersey College for Girls building and the Jersey Opera House. His work helped shape Victorian Jersey, and we're honoured that the Ommaroo forms part of that architectural legacy.
One of our favourite pieces of history hangs on the walls of the hotel itself – one of Adolphus Curry's original drawings showing the proposed terrace at Havre des Pas. Looking at those plans today, it's incredible to think they became the building that continues to welcome guests more than a century later.
Throughout its history the Ommaroo has continued to evolve. It has been sympathetically refurbished and carefully modernised, always with respect for its Victorian character.

Original features have been uncovered and preserved, helping to ensure the Hotel's heritage remains part of every guest's experience.
Today, guests can enjoy comfortable bedrooms, delicious dining, our heated outdoor pool and Terrace overlooking Havre des Pas, while still experiencing the charm and character that have made the Ommaroo so distinctive for generations.
